Birding Paarl Sewage Works
After some reports of a Squacco and Goliath Heron seen at Paarl Sewage Works, and it being such a nice day, my wife and I decided to go birding.
My main goal was to get some decent photos of the two herons.
At the moment there is a lot of activity at the sewage works. They are erecting a security fence around the inner complex. We might not be able to bird the first two pans in the future. The guy at the gate was not sure whether birders will have access once they are finish. The hides and the two large pans will still be accessible.
With it being winter there are not a large number of birds. We did however see 65 bird species in the 4 hours that we were there. Sadly I missed out on both herons.
Some nice birds seen was Hottentot’s Teals, Greater White Pelicans and White-face Ducks.
This is a great place to bird. As can be seen by the photos the view of the pans with the mountains in the back ground is really scenic.
Some more info about the birding can be found here : Paarl Sewage Works
Attached below some scenic photos and also the bird list of birds seen.
