Droëvlei farm is about 15 km from Durbanville on the R304 on route to Malmesbury. Tygerberg Bird club do a bird count there in Summer and Winter. The farm has a large natural dam that in Summer is usually dry, hence the name Droëvlei. There are a surprising number of water-birds found on the dam , that one would not expect if you look at the Durbanville area habitat. We had fantastic weather for the outing. At a distance we finished counting all the birds and then circled the dam. As you will see on my photos , just about all the water-birds flew off as we came to close. The farm is really lovely as can be seen by the landscape photos.
For me the highlights were the Lessor Flamingoes seen. Usually in the Cape Province you will see Greater Flamingoes. We also saw a Cape Clapper Lark which was also a nice sighting given the habitat. We managed to see a respectable 53 species for the morning. See the bird list below photos.
